WHAT IS GRIEFSHARE?
GriefShare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult times and experiences. You don’t have to go through the grief journey by yourself.
GriefShare seminars and support groups are led by people who understand what you are going through(they have walked through the grief journey) and want to help you. You’ll gain access to valuable resources to help you recover from your loss and look forward to rebuilding a new normal life.
HOW GRIEFSHARE WORKS:
It may be difficult for you to feel optimistic about your future right now. If you have lost a spouse, child, parent or other family member or a friend or co-worker, you probably found there are not too many people who understand the hurt and isolation you now feel.
This can be a confusing time because you have had a loss in your life and have many questions about things in your life that you have never had to confront before.
GriefShare groups meet weekly for 13-15 weeks to help you face these challenges and move forward rebuilding your life. Each GriefShare session has three distinct elements:
Video Seminar with Experts: Each week your GriefShare group will watch a DVD seminar featuring top experts discuss grief and recovery subjects. These videos are produced in an interesting-to-watch television magazine format featuring expert interviews, real-life case studies, dramatic re-enactments and on-location video.
Support Group Discussion with Focus: After viewing the video, you and the other group members will spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in your life.
Workbook-based Personal Study and Reflection: During the week you have the opportunity to use your study guide for further personal study of the grieving process(using Scripture) and to help sort out your emotions and thoughts through journaling.
Needless to say, all that is shared within the GriefShare group is kept confidential….GriefShare is a “safe haven” for those who no longer have their loved ones with them.
Gloria Dei is in its 17th year of sponsoring this peer led GriefShare ministry which is open to our congregational membership as well as people in the surrounding communities. We meet in the Chapel on Saturday afternoons starting Feb. 17, 2018 at 1:00 pm. Group 29 of GriefShare will end May 26 with a Candlelighting Remembrance. New participants are asked to come in at 12:30 pm for registration . Registration which is $25.00 covers the cost of the accompanying GriefShare study guide, Resource Manual and Tool Box.
When should you join? Some participants have waited a year or two, others have come into the program within days of their loss. One individual joined us after a loss which occurred 20 years ago. It is a personal choice. Since each session is self-contained, one can join at any time during the cycle and catch up when the next series resumes.
